This Saturday, October 4th 2014, is the 3rd Annual “The Grand Woofstock” Pet Festival. This is North County’s premier pet festival, and even if you are not a pet owner, this is a local event which you do not want to miss. Some of our favorite parts of the event include the “Dancing with the Dogs” costume contest, and the “Dog Parade”
Who isn’t a fan of dog’s dressed in ridiculous costumes?
Here at Lifetime Smiles, we have a mix of dog and cat owners, and we must admit that we are guilty of dressing up our pets on the occasional holiday. It is always a guessing game of “Is my dog scowling?” or “I think he/she likes it!” It might be best to further contemplate our pets feelings while enjoying local brews at the “Hair of the Dog” Beer Garden, or perhaps snacking at one of the many popular gourmet food trucks that will be featured this weekend in Escondido. Be sure to also wear your dancing shoes, as local DJ Bob will be playing a variety of music, and hopefully he is not accompanied by too many barking dogs!

Located at Grape Day Park, this historic Escondido, CA park offers the following:
- Heritage Walk, established for the nation’s Bicentennial in 1976, displays buildings preserved from Escondido’s early days
- Vinehenge – an interactive public art project located in Grape Day Park. The whimsical project includes a grapevine climbing structure with hidden secrets for children to find, a slide decorated with giant purple grapes with mosaic details, benches in the shape of oversized grape leaves and a perimeter of rocks reminiscent of the rocks in the hills around Escondido. The play sculpture is intended for children of all ages and abilities. It is ADA compliant. The project was designed and fabricated by the artist team, Nancy Moran and Valerie Salatino of Nature Works, Inc., an Escondido based company.

As a final word, we would like to recommend bringing any friends who have been contemplating a new dog, or even an addition to their dog family. Over 42 dogs have found their homes at The Grand Woofstock Pet Festival, and we would love for that number to grow exponentially. The great people who run the event allow all non-profit dog rescues to attend for FREE. Be on the lookout for your next furry best friend!
