What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is a permanent dental restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth, especially when multiple teeth are missing in a row. Dental bridges got their name from how they work; a dental bridge uses dental crowns to anchor an artificial tooth, literally bridging the gap between missing teeth. There are many kinds of dental bridges available, depending on which teeth you are missing from your smile. Your skilled dentists, Dr. Rabee McDonald & Dr. Christo Mallakis, will determine what is best for your smile and guide you through each step of the treatment process. Generally, a traditional bridge consists of two dental crowns placed on the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth, with the replacement tooth in the middle. The crowns are used to hold the new tooth in place. Dental bridges are most often used to:
- Replace missing teeth
- Help you eat and chew as normal
- Prevent natural teeth from moving out of proper position
- Alleviate pressure on your bite
- Bring back your winning smile
