What are sealants?

A dental sealant is used as part of our preventative dentistry initiative at Lifetime Smiles. Especially useful for our younger patients, sealants in Escondido, California act as a protective shield to prevent tooth decay and damage. They are used on the chewing surfaces of teeth, mainly your premolars and molars, which have deep ridges and grooves. This makes these teeth hard to clean and prone to decay and infection. Sealants make your chewing surfaces smooth and easy to clean, while protecting the enamel from sugars, acids, and built-up plaque and tartar. We provide high-quality sealants to ensure your smile lasts a lifetime!

How are sealants applied?

Applying a sealant is one of the simplest treatments available at our dental office. In fact, it only takes a couple of minutes to apply each sealant. Made from a strong plastic material, a sealant is painted onto a tooth by our capable dentists, Dr. McDonald & Dr. Mallakis, and allowed to harden. While sealants are generally used for children, they may also be useful for adults who have not experienced tooth decay on their back teeth and do not have any existing dental restorations.
