Inlays and Onlays at Lifetime Smiles, Escondido

At Lifetime Smiles, we strive to provide dental treatment options that are specific to your individual needs. Dental inlays and onlays are specialized dental restorations used to repair teeth that require more than just a dental filling, but are not damaged enough to necessitate a full dental crown. Inlays and onlays are also effective at repairing teeth that could be structurally compromised by a composite or amalgam dental filling. Dr. McDonald or Dr. Mallakis, our practiced dentists, will know if an inlay or onlay is right for your smile after a dental examination. For more information on how porcelain inlays and onlays in Escondido, California can restore your teeth, we welcome you to contact our friendly dental team today at 760-747-1811.

What is the difference between an inlay and onlay?

Inlays and onlays serve the same purpose; both are used to improve the function, health, and appearance of damaged and decayed teeth. Also, inlays and onlays are both created from porcelain, resulting in a strong, aesthetic restoration. The difference comes from the cusps of your teeth, the projected, elevated top of your tooth’s surface. An inlay is used when the damage does not include the cusp of the tooth, whereas an onlay repairs a tooth with decay or damage that extends to the cusps. In most instances, we are able to deliver these beautiful restorations in one visit so you don’t have to have a temporary or a second appointment to deliver the restorations via our Cerec technology.
