Cold sores are a form of oral herpes, and common in adults. Most people in the U.S. are infected by age 20. Oral herpes is an infection of the lips, mouth, or gums due to the herpes simplex 1 virus. It causes small, painful blisters commonly called cold sores or fever blisters. Oral herpes is also called herpes labialis. Cold sores can be caused by stress, sun exposure, fever, and hormones. It is extremely contagious and contact with the virus even prior to the actual outbreak can be passed on which is why 40% of Americans are infected with the herpes simplex 1 virus.

Viroxyn is the one of the most effective treatments for cold sores caused by the Herpes Simplex 1 virus. The previous standard for treating herpes relied on nucleosides to interrupt the reproductive cycle of the herpes virus. By doing so, they must change the type of DNA being produced in affected cells. Some of these DNA changes are potentially harmful, and some patients experienced side effects. Other patients do not have good results, and some question the long-term consequences of repeated internal exposure to nucleoside drugs. Internal exposure to nucleoside drugs may theoretically risk damaging cells that are not involved in the herpes infection. Viroxyn is a new and more clever approach to treating herpes, that does not rely on taking medicine internally. Instead of trying to interfere with viral reproduction or coat skin cells with fat, Viroxyn acts directly to disrupt the lipid coat of the virus. Therefore, Viroxyn® is best described as a germicide rather than a classical anti-viral. It is important to use Viroxyn as soon as the tingling sensation begins.
